Q1: When is World Breastfeeding Week (WBW)?

WBW is officially celebrated on 1-7 August every year to mark the anniversary of the Innocenti Declaration. However, some countries choose to celebrate it at different times of the year.

 

Millions of people all over the world organise activities to celebrate WBW. Don’t forget to pledge and report your event this year!

Q2: What languages are the WBW materials available in?

The WBW logo, poster and action folder will be available in the current official and working languages of the United Nations (Arabic, English, French, Mandarin, Russian, and Spanish).

 

Some of the WBW campaign materials will also be available in other languages. Permission must always be sought before translating any/all of the WBW campaign materials. If you are interested in translating the logo, poster and action folder into languages other than the above-mentioned, please fill in this form.

Q3: Can I use the WBW Logo/Campaign Materials?

Prior written consent must always be sought before using the logo/campaign materials. The logo and campaign materials shall not be used in any way that directly or indirectly damages WABA’s reputation and/or standing, whether by content, context or association. The logo and campaign materials shall not be used in any event and/or activity sponsored, supported or organised by companies manufacturing, distributing or marketing breastmilk substitutes, related equipment such as feeding bottles and teats, and complementary foods. WABA asserts all legal rights and intellectual property rights under the Berne Convention over the World Breastfeeding Week Logo and Campaign Materials. This copyright is subject to fair use, with appropriate attribution to WABA. The logo and campaign materials may be used only with the prior written consent of WABA in celebrating World Breastfeeding Week and other activities related to the protection, promotion and support of breastfeeding.

Q4: Can I modify the WBW Logo/Campaign Materials?

WABA only allows modification/adaptation in the form of changing photos in the poster and action folder. The photos you use should not be associated with companies manufacturing, distributing or marketing breastmilk substitutes, related equipment such as feeding bottles and teats, and complementary foods. Please send us the final layout of your modification/adaptation for approval and credit WABA for usage ([email protected])

Q5: How can I participate in the WBW celebration?

Join the celebration in the following ways:

Use/distribute the Campaign Materials: Visit the WBW website regularly to check for updates on Campaign Materials and other resources.

 

Pledge and report on your WBW2020 activity/event: Pledge to participate in the #WBW2020 celebrations by sending us details of your activities and we will pin your information to our Pledge Map. After your event, remember to send us your report. We will send you an e-certificate for each event or activity that has been pledged AND reported.

 

Join the social media  movement: We will be creating a Media and Social Media Kit containing information and assets that you can use in the #WBW2020 campaign. Interact on the #WBW2020 social media channels: FacebookTwitterYouTube Instagram, and use the following hashtags in all your social media interaction: #WBW2020 #WABA #breastfeeding #SDGs #worldbreastfeedingweek2020

Q6: Can WABA endorse my WBW event?

Pledge to participate in the #WBW2020 celebrations by sending us details of your activities and we will pin your information to our Pledge Map. If you follow up your pledge with a report, WABA will send you an e-certificate of acknowledgement.

 

Please note that WABA does not endorse WBW events by individuals/organisations involved in any activity sponsored by or connected to companies manufacturing, distributing or marketing breastmilk substitutes, related equipment such as feeding bottles and teats, and complementary foods. If your event involves any commercial activity other than the above, please write to  [email protected] for further information. WABA reserves the right to decline WBW pledges and reports that contravene our working principles.

Q7: What can I do if I notice WBW being used by companies that are manufacturing, distributing or marketing breastmilk substitutes, related equipment such as feeding bottles and teats, and complementary foods?

Companies sometimes use WBW to promote their products. This contravenes WABA’s working principles. WABA uses a two-pronged approach to mitigate this type of violation:

(i) includes a Copyright Notice in all our campaign materials

(ii) issues an infringement notice to identified violators
