When is World Breastfeeding Week (WBW)?

WBW is officially celebrated on 1-7 August every year to mark the anniversary of the Innocenti Declaration. However, some countries choose to celebrate it at different times of the year.

 

Millions of people all over the world organise activities to celebrate WBW. Don’t forget to pledge and report your event this year!

What languages are the WBW materials available in?

The full set of WBW campaign materials (logo, poster, action folder and insert) will be available in the current official and working languages of the United Nations (Arabic, English, French, Mandarin, Russian, and Spanish).

 

Some of the WBW campaign materials will also be available in other languages. Visit the Campaign Materials page on our website for more information.

 

Permission must always be sought before translating any/all of the WBW campaign materials. If you have translated WBW campaign materials into your language, email this to us at [email protected]. for a review. WABA reserves all reproduction and representation rights.

Can I use the WBW Logo/Campaign Materials?

To use the logo and campaign materials, please read our Copyright Notice:

 

WABA asserts all legal rights and intellectual property rights under the Berne Convention over the World Breastfeeding Week Logos and Campaign Materials and specifically over the World Breastfeeding Week 2019 (WBW2019) Logo and the World Breastfeeding Week 2019 (WBW2019) Campaign Materials.  This copyright is subject to fair use, with appropriate attribution to WABA. The logo and materials may be used with the prior written consent of WABA in celebrating World Breastfeeding Week and other activities related to the protection, promotion and support of breastfeeding.

 

The logo and materials shall not be used in any way that directly or indirectly damages WABA’s reputation and/or standing, whether by content, context or association. Prior written consent shall always be sought before the image is used in any commercial activity. The image shall not be used in any event and/or activity sponsored, supported or organised by companies manufacturing or distributing breastmilk substitutes, related equipment such as feeding bottles and teats, and complementary foods.

Can I modify the WBW Logo/Campaign Materials?

To modify the logo and campaign materials, please follow the steps below:

STEP 2: Note that WABA only allows modifications of the Logo and Campaign Materials in the following ways:

  • Translation
  • Changing of photos in the WBW2019 Action Folder

 

STEP 3: Write to us at [email protected] with the following information:

  • How are you modifying the Logo and/or Campaign Materials
  • Are you/your organisation receiving any sponsorship and/or monetary benefits? If so, what kind?

 

STEP 4: Send us the final layout of your modification(s) for approval and credit WABA for usage of the WBW2019 Logo and/or Campaign Materials

How can I participate in the WBW celebration?

Join the celebration in the following ways:

 

Use/distribute the Campaign Materials: Sign up for updates or visit the WBW website regularly to check for updates on Campaign Materials and other resources. After your event, remember to send us your report and we will send you an e-certificate for each event or activity you have organised.

 

Pledge and report on your WBW2019 activity/event: Pledge to participate in the #WBW2019 celebrations by sending us details of your activities and we will pin your information to our Pledge Map.

 

Join the social media  movement: We will be creating a Media and Social Media Kit containing information and assets that you can use in the #WBW2019 campaign. Interact on the #WBW2019 social media channels: Facebook, Twitter, YouTube & Instagram, and use the following hashtags in all your social media interaction: #WBW2019 #WABA #EmpowerParents #EnableBreastfeeding #breastfeeding #SDGs #worldbreastfeedingweek2019

Can WABA support my efforts to protect, promote and support breastfeeding through WBW?

WABA provides a few seed grants to organisations to organisations for activities that promote (a) parental social protection policies and legislation, (b) parent-friendly workplaces in both formal and informal sectors, and (c) parent-friendly values and gender-equitable social norms. Find out about the seed grants and send us your applications.

Can WABA endorse my WBW event?

Pledge to participate in the #WBW2019 celebrations by sending us details of your activities and we will pin your information to our Pledge Map. If you follow up your pledge with a report, WABA will send you an e-certificate of acknowledgement.

 

Please note that WABA does not endorse WBW events by individuals/organisations involved in any activity sponsored by or connected to companies manufacturing or distributing breastmilk substitutes, related equipment such as feeding bottles and teats, and complementary foods. If your event involves any commercial activity other than the above, please write to  [email protected] for further information. WABA reserves the right to decline WBW pledges that contravene our working principles.

What can I do if I notice WBW being used by companies that are manufacturing or distributing breastmilk substitutes, related equipment or complementary foods?

Companies sometimes use WBW to promote their products. This contravenes WABA’s working principles. WABA uses a two-pronged approach to mitigate this type of violation:

(i) includes a Copyright Notice for all our campaign materials

(ii) issues an infringement notice to those identified violators
